「童子!菩薩摩訶薩住於慈忍有十種利益。何等為十?一者、火不能燒,二者、刀不能割,三者、毒不能中,四者、水不能漂,五者、為非人護,六者、得身相莊嚴,七者、閉諸惡道,八者、隨其所樂生於梵天,九者、晝夜常安,十者、其身不離喜樂。童子!是為菩薩成就十種慈忍利益。」
"O Youth! There are ten benefits for bodhisattva mahāsattvas who dwell in patience with loving-kindness. What are these ten? First, fire cannot burn them. Second, swords cannot cut them. Third, poison cannot affect them. Fourth, water cannot sweep them away. Fifth, they are protected by non-human beings. Sixth, they attain a body adorned with auspicious marks. Seventh, they are protected from the evil realms. Eighth, they are born in the Brahmā heaven according to their wishes. Ninth, they are always peaceful day and night. Tenth, their body never departs from joy and bliss. O Youth! These are the ten benefits bodhisattvas attain through patience with loving-kindness."
爾時,世尊即說偈言:
At that time, the Bhagavān spoke the following gāthā:
「是人火不燒,
刀杖莫能傷,
毒藥所不中,
暴水無能漂,
Fire cannot burn them,
Swords and staves cannot harm them,
Poison cannot affect them,
And raging waters cannot sweep them away.
常為非人護,
具三十二相,
關閉諸惡道,
皆是慈忍利;
They are always protected by non-human beings,
Adorned with the thirty-two marks,
The evil realms are closed to them,
These are the benefits of patience with loving-kindness.
帝釋及梵天,
欲得則不難,
恒住安樂處,
喜悅不思議。
To attain the realms of Indra and Brahmā
Is not difficult for them,
They always abide in peace and joy,
And experience unfathomable bliss.
刀杖、火不害,
水、毒亦不傷,
天、龍、夜叉護,
住忍獲此益;
Swords, staves, and fire cannot harm,
Water and poison cannot injure,
They are protected by devas, nāgas, and yakṣas,
Such are the benefits of dwelling in patience.
身相三十二,
不畏墮惡道,
死則生梵天,
是住慈忍利;
They possess the thirty-two marks,
And fear no fall into the evil realms,
At death, they are reborn in Brahmā’s heaven,
These are the benefits of dwelling in patience with loving-kindness.
晝夜常安隱,
喜悅充遍身,
於眾清淨心,
無有諸過障。
Day and night, they are always at peace,
Joy permeates their entire body,
Among the multitude, their heart is pure,
Without any faults or obstacles.
「童子!菩薩精進有十種利益。何等為十?一者、他不折伏,二者、得佛所攝,三者、為非人所護,四者、聞法不忘,五者、未聞能聞,六者、增長辯才,七者、得三昧性,八者、少病、少惱,九者、隨所得食,食已能消,十者、如優鉢羅花不同於杵。童子!是為十種精進利益。」
"O Youth! The practice of diligence by bodhisattvas has ten benefits. What are these ten? First, they cannot be subdued by others. Second, they are embraced by the Buddhas. Third, they are protected by non-human beings. Fourth, they do not forget the Dharma they hear. Fifth, they are able to hear teachings they have not yet heard. Sixth, they increase in eloquence. Seventh, they attain the nature of samādhi. Eighth, they experience few illnesses and little distress. Ninth, they are able to digest the food they receive. Tenth, they are like utpala lotuses, which are unlike the pestle. O Youth! These are the ten benefits of diligence."
爾時,世尊即說偈言:
At that time, the Bhagavān spoke the following gāthā:
「成就難折伏,
其心無悔熱,
為非人所護,
常覩見諸佛,
Accomplished and difficult to subdue,
Their minds free from regret or agitation,
They are protected by non-human beings,
And constantly behold the Buddhas.
增長勝辯才,
到於無盡智,
獲得三昧性,
無復諸病惱,
They increase their excellent eloquence,
And reach inexhaustible wisdom,
Attaining the nature of samādhi,
And no longer suffer from illnesses or afflictions.
所食諸飲食,
入腹能消化,
如優鉢在水,
漸漸而增長。
Whatever food and drink they consume,
It is digested with ease,
Like the utpala in water,
Gradually growing and flourishing.
如是所聞法,
聞已能增長,
晝夜恒思念,
終無有空過。
In this way, whatever Dharma they hear,
Once heard, it increases,
Day and night they constantly reflect,
And never waste a single moment.
如來勇猛勤,
積劫被進鎧,
降魔及軍眾,
證道除憂怖。
The Tathāgata’s diligence is mighty,
Armoured in diligence for countless kalpas,
He subdued Māra and his armies,
Realised the path and dispelled sorrow and fear.
菩薩救諸趣,
不顧戀身命,
精進起法藏,
我已顯彼德。
Bodhisattvas rescue all beings,
Without attachment to body or life,
Through diligence they arise in the Dharma treasury,
I have now revealed their virtues.
精進難可伏,
諸佛所攝受,
若能獲是利,
不久速證道。
Diligence is difficult to overcome,
And they are embraced by all Buddhas,
If they attain these benefits,
They will swiftly realise the path.
所聞不忘失、
未聞者得聞,
增長辯才力,
是名精進利。
They do not forget what they hear,
And hear what they have not yet heard,
Their eloquence increases,
This is called the benefit of diligence.
速逮此三昧,
無有諸病惱,
隨其所噉食,
消化得安樂。
They quickly attain this samādhi,
Free from all illness and affliction,
Whatever food they eat,
Is digested and brings them peace.
晝夜增白法,
常勤不懈退,
不久得菩提,
堅心精進故。
Day and night, they increase in pure Dharma,
Always diligent without retreating,
They will soon attain bodhi,
Due to their steadfast diligence.
「童子!菩薩摩訶薩與禪相應有十種利益。何等為十?一者、安住儀式,二者、行慈境界,三者、無諸惱熱,四者、守護諸根,五者、得無食喜樂,六者、遠離愛欲,七者、修禪不空,八者、解脫魔羂,九者、安住佛境,十者、解脫成熟。童子!是為菩薩禪定相應十種利益。」
"O Youth! There are ten benefits for bodhisattva mahāsattvas who practise meditation in accord with concentration. What are these ten? First, they abide in proper conduct. Second, they engage in the domain of loving-kindness. Third, they are free from all afflictions and heat. Fourth, they guard their sense faculties. Fifth, they attain joy and happiness without food. Sixth, they are far removed from craving and desire. Seventh, their practice of meditation is not in vain. Eighth, they are liberated from the snare of Māra. Ninth, they abide in the realm of the Buddhas. Tenth, they attain full liberation. O Youth! These are the ten benefits of bodhisattvas who are in accord with meditation and concentration."
爾時,世尊即說偈言:
At that time, the Bhagavān spoke the following gāthā:
「彼不住非法,
安住於儀式,
遊行方便境,
遠離非境界,
They do not dwell in the improper,
But abide in proper conduct,
They wander through skilful domains,
Far removed from unwholesome realms.
其心無惱熱,
善調伏諸根,
受勝禪定樂,
宴坐離諸緣,
Their mind is free from afflictions and heat,
They have well-tamed their sense faculties,
They experience the supreme joy of meditation,
Sitting serenely, detached from all conditions.
遠離渴愛欲,
飡食禪定味,
解脫魔境界,
安止佛行處,
Far from craving and desire,
They savour the flavour of meditation,
Liberated from Māra’s realm,
Abiding in the path of the Buddhas.
樂獨林樹間,
是為勝方便,
修真實解脫,
滅除諸苦惱。
They find joy in solitude among trees in the forest,
This is their supreme skilful means,
They cultivate true liberation,
Extinguishing all suffering and distress.
安心清淨法,
遠離非儀式,
住境遠非境,
合禪獲是利;
They rest their minds in pure Dharma,
Far from improper conduct,
Abiding in wholesome domains, far from unwholesome realms,
Practising meditation, they attain these benefits.
心不生熱惱,
證無食聖樂,
身心恒清涼,
是禪相應利。
Their mind does not give rise to afflictions or heat,
They experience the sacred joy of needing no food,
Their body and mind are always cool and tranquil,
These are the benefits of meditation in accord with concentration.
處空根寂靜,
其心離雜亂,
獲得過人喜,
方便離欲故。
Dwelling in the realm of emptiness and tranquillity,
Their mind is free from distraction,
They attain extraordinary joy,
And skilfully abandon all desire.
心不雜欲染,
常遠魔境界,
安止佛行處,
彼解脫成熟。
Their mind is not tainted by desire,
They are always far from Māra’s realm,
Abiding in the path of the Buddhas,
They attain full maturation of liberation.
「童子!菩薩摩訶薩行般若波羅蜜有十種利益。何等為十?一者、一切悉捨不取施想,二者、持戒不缺而不依戒,三者、住於忍力而不住眾生想,四者、行於精進而離身心,五者、修禪而無所住,六者、魔王波旬不能擾亂,七者、於他言論其心不動,八者、能達生死海底,九者、於諸眾生起增上悲,十者、不樂聲聞、辟支佛道。童子!是為菩薩行般若波羅蜜成就如是十種利益。」
"O Youth! There are ten benefits for bodhisattva mahāsattvas who practise the prajñāpāramitā. What are these ten? First, they give up all things without holding onto the thought of giving. Second, they uphold discipline without deficiency but do not rely on the precepts. Third, they abide in the power of patience without holding the notion of sentient beings. Fourth, they engage in diligence while being detached from body and mind. Fifth, they cultivate meditation without attachment to any place. Sixth, the demon king Māra cannot disturb them. Seventh, their mind remains unmoved by others' words. Eighth, they can reach the bottom of the ocean of saṃsāra. Ninth, they give rise to great compassion for all sentient beings. Tenth, they do not delight in the paths of śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas. O Youth! These are the ten benefits attained by bodhisattvas through practising the perfection of wisdom."
爾時,世尊即說偈言:
At that time, the Bhagavān spoke the following gāthā:
「勇健一切捨,
而不取施想,
護持戒不缺,
亦無有所依,
They courageously give up all things,
Without holding onto the thought of giving,
They uphold discipline without deficiency,
And do not rely on the precepts.
智者修忍辱,
而不見眾生,
勇猛勤精進,
遠離於身心,
The wise cultivate patience,
Without perceiving sentient beings,
They are courageous and diligent,
Detached from body and mind.
修習勝禪定,
不依於三界,
諸魔靡能制,
信慧之功能,
They cultivate superior meditation,
Without relying on the three realms,
No demon can control them,
This is the power of faith and wisdom.
於彼諸外道,
其心不傾動,
到於生死底,
信慧之功能,
Their mind is not swayed
By the teachings of external paths,
They reach the bottom of [the ocean of] saṃsāra,
This is the power of faith and wisdom.
於諸眾生所,
而得大悲心,
聲聞、緣覺地,
曾不生愛樂。
For all sentient beings,
They give rise to great compassion,
And in the paths of śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas,
They do not find joy or delight.
於捨不存取,
持戒亦無依,
忍辱離生想,
是信慧功能;
In giving, they do not cling or grasp,
In upholding discipline, they do not rely,
In patience, they are free from thoughts of sentient beings,
This is the power of faith and wisdom.
精進而遠離,
修禪無所依,
不為魔所制,
是信慧功能;
In diligence, they are detached,
In meditation, they have no attachment,
They are not controlled by Māra,
This is the power of faith and wisdom.
他言論不動,
達到生死底,
於生起上悲,
是信慧功能;
Their mind remains unmoved by others' words,
They reach the bottom of saṃsāra,
And give rise to supreme compassion for all beings,
This is the power of faith and wisdom.
聲聞、緣覺道,
不起愛樂心,
為學佛功德,
是信慧功能。
In the paths of śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas,
They do not give rise to joy or delight,
For they aspire to learn the virtues of the Buddhas,
This is the power of faith and wisdom.
「童子!菩薩多聞有十種利益。何等為十?一者、知煩惱資助,二者、知清淨助,三者、遠離疑惑,四者、作正直見,五者、遠離非道,六者、安住正路,七者、開甘露門,八者、近佛菩提,九者、與一切眾生而作光明,十者、不畏惡道。童子!是為十種多聞利益。」
"O Youth! The bodhisattva, who possesses extensive learning, has ten benefits. What are these ten? First, they know the supports of afflictions. Second, they know the supports of purity. Third, they are free from doubts. Fourth, they establish correct views. Fifth, they avoid false paths. Sixth, they abide on the correct path. Seventh, they open the gate to the deathless. Eighth, they draw near to the Buddha's bodhi. Ninth, they become a light for all sentient beings. Tenth, they do not fear the evil realms. O Youth! These are the ten benefits of extensive learning."
爾時,世尊即說偈言:
At that time, the Bhagavān spoke the following gāthā:
「童子!是十利,
顯示於多聞,
是諸佛、世尊,
如實而了知。
O Youth! These ten benefits,
Are displayed through extensive learning,
They are well understood by all Buddhas,
And by the Bhagavān, as they truly are.
煩惱及清淨,
二助皆實知,
能棄捨煩惱,
安住清淨中,
They truly know both the supports of afflictions,
And the supports of purity,
They can abandon afflictions,
And abide in purity.
智慧除疑惑,
正直他見心,
常遠離惡道,
止住正真路,
With wisdom, they remove doubts,
They correct the views of others,
They always stay far from the evil realms,
And abide on the true and righteous path.
開闡甘露門,
近於佛菩提,
為眾作光明,
而不畏惡道。
They open the gate to ambrosia,
Drawing near to the Buddha's enlightenment,
They become a light for sentient beings,
And do not fear the evil realms.
知諸煩惱資,
又達清淨助,
勇健離煩惑,
栖薄清淨法。
They know the supports of afflictions,
And understand the supports of purity,
Courageously abandoning defilements,
They dwell in the subtle purity of the Dharma.
除眾種種疑,
能正他人見,
棄捨嶮惡道,
多聞住善徑。
They dispel all manner of doubts,
And correct the views of others,
They forsake the perilous evil path,
And through extensive learning, they walk the virtuous road.
能開甘露門,
堅固近菩提,
於眾如光明,
終不畏惡道。
They can open the gate to ambrosia,
Firmly approaching bodhi,
Among all beings, they are like light,
And never fear the evil realms.
「童子!菩薩摩訶薩行於法施有十種利益。何等為十?一者、棄捨惡事,二者、能作善事,三者、住善人法,四者、淨佛國土,五者、趣詣道場,六者、捨所愛事,七者、降伏煩惱,八者、於諸眾生施福德分,九者、於諸眾生修習慈心,十者、見法得於喜樂。童子!是為菩薩行於法施十種利益。」
"O Youth! There are ten benefits for bodhisattva mahāsattvas who practise the giving of Dharma. What are these ten? First, they abandon evil deeds. Second, they can perform virtuous deeds. Third, they abide in the Dharma of good people. Fourth, they purify the Buddha lands. Fifth, they approach the bodhimaṇḍa. Sixth, they give up attachments to cherished things. Seventh, they subdue afflictions. Eighth, they bestow merit upon sentient beings. Ninth, they cultivate loving-kindness toward sentient beings. Tenth, they experience joy and bliss through seeing the Dharma. O Youth! These are the ten benefits of bodhisattvas who practise the giving of Dharma."
爾時,世尊即說偈言:
At that time, the Bhagavān spoke the following gāthā:
「行於最勝施,
於法無悋惜,
彼有十種利,
導師已顯說。
Practising the supreme giving,
With no reluctance in giving the Dharma,
There are ten benefits,
Which the Teacher has clearly explained.
棄捨世惡事,
常能行善業,
安住善人法,
修行布施心,
Abandoning worldly evil deeds,
They always perform virtuous acts,
Abiding in the Dharma of good people,
And cultivating the mind of generosity.
能淨諸佛土,
如佛之所說,
趣詣道場所,
是為法施果,
They purify the Buddha lands,
[Acting] as spoken by the Buddha,
Approaching the bodhimaṇḍa,
This is the result of giving the Dharma.
捨離一切事,
修學於法王,
降伏諸煩惱,
彼得道不難,
They renounce all attachments,
And study under the King of Dharma,
Subduing all afflictions,
They easily attain the path.
慈心施眾生、
一切福德分,
不起嫉妬結,
獲勝過人樂。
With a heart of loving-kindness, they give to all beings,
Bestowing portions of merit,
Free from the knot of jealousy,
They attain supreme joy beyond that of others.
智者離惡作,
勇猛為善事,
住善丈夫法,
法施者所得;
The wise abandon evil actions,
Courageously engaging in virtuous deeds,
Abiding in the Dharma of good people,
These are the benefits of giving the Dharma.
彼淨佛國土,
起助道善法,
趣近於道場,
是為法施利;
They purify the Buddha lands,
Arising in virtuous practices that aid the path,
And draw near to the bodhimaṇḍa,
These are the benefits of giving the Dharma.
於事無慳嫉,
能了事自相,
解脫諸取著,
愛事無障礙。
In their affairs, they have no stinginess or jealousy,
Understanding the nature of all things,
They are liberated from grasping and attachment,
And face no obstacles in what they love.
智者發是心,
令眾有福分,
得慈無嫉妬,
善法中得樂。
The wise develop this mind,
Bestowing merit upon all beings,
With loving-kindness, free from jealousy,
They find joy in virtuous Dharma.
「童子!菩薩摩訶薩安住於空得十種利。何等為十?一者、住佛所住,二者、修禪無依,三者、不樂一切受生,四者、於戒不取,五者、不謗賢聖,六者、於一切眾生住不違諍,七者、不得眾生事,八者、住於遠離一切惡事,九者、不謗諸佛,十者、攝取一切白淨之法。童子!是為菩薩摩訶薩安住於空十種利益。」
"O Youth! There are ten benefits for bodhisattva mahāsattvas who abide in emptiness. What are these ten? First, they abide where the Buddha abides. Second, they cultivate meditation without attachment. Third, they do not take delight in any form of rebirth. Fourth, they do not grasp at precepts. Fifth, they do not slander the noble ones. Sixth, they dwell among all sentient beings without engaging in disputes. Seventh, they do not become involved in worldly affairs. Eighth, they dwell far from all evil deeds. Ninth, they do not slander the Buddhas. Tenth, they adopt all pure and virtuous Dharma. O Youth! These are the ten benefits of bodhisattvas who abide in emptiness."
爾時,世尊即說偈言:
At that time, the Bhagavān spoke the following gāthā:
「天人尊所住,
謂世親導師,
勇猛能安住,
謂無壽命等,
They abide where the revered of devas and humans dwell,
As the guide and teacher of the world,
Courageously abiding,
In that which is free from notions of soul, etc.
得彼禪定樂,
世間無所依,
心不悕受生,
以知法性故,
They attain the joy of meditation,
Without relying on anything in the world,
Their mind does not long for rebirth,
For they understand the nature of Dharma.
於戒若不取,
成就無漏戒,
不生惡道中、
常安住聖種,
Though they do not cling to precepts,
They accomplish the precepts free from outflows,
They are not born into the evil realms,
But always dwell in the lineage of the noble ones.
住於無鬪諍,
世間最柔軟,
了知一切事,
稱如實體性,
They dwell in a state free from conflict,
The most gentle in the world,
They understand all things,
In accordance with their true nature.
乃至捨身命,
不誹謗如來,
於空法決定,
身證無所畏。
Even at the cost of their life,
They do not slander the Tathāgata,
Firm in the doctrine of emptiness,
Their body attains fearlessness.
一切世間親,
佛道不思議,
能持於佛道,
空法無有疑。
They are a relative to all the world,
The Buddha's path is inconceivable,
They can uphold the Buddha's path,
Without doubt in the Dharma of emptiness.
人尊之所住,
非諸外道地,
不依禪定樂,
無眾生、壽命。
They dwell where the revered reside,
Not in the domain of external paths,
They do not rely on the joy of meditation,
Free from notions of sentient beings and lifespan.
彼曾無所止,
不依於禪樂,
知無壽命法,
恒有無願心。
They have no fixed abode,
Not relying on the joy of meditation,
They know the Dharma of no lifespan,
Always abiding in the mind of no craving.
善知法自性,
不依諸煩惱,
信樂佛勝人,
曾無取著心。
They thoroughly understand the nature of the Dharma,
And do not rely on afflictions,
They have faith and joy in the Buddha, the supreme being,
And have never grasped at anything.
彼常無鬪諍,
觀事修離行,
安住正覺道,
能持如來法。
They are always free from conflict,
Observing things and cultivating detachment,
They abide on the path of true awakening,
And can uphold the Tathāgata's Dharma.
「童子!菩薩摩訶薩住於宴坐有十種利益。何等為十?一者、其心不濁,二者、住不放逸,三者、諸佛愛念,四者、信正覺行,五者、於佛智不疑,六者、知恩,七者、不謗正法,八者、善能防禁,九者、到調伏地,十者、證四無礙。童子!是為菩薩摩訶薩住於宴坐十種利益。」
"O Youth! There are ten benefits for bodhisattva mahāsattvas who abide in serene meditation. What are these ten? First, their mind is not clouded. Second, they abide in non-negligence. Third, they are cherished by the Buddhas. Fourth, they have faith in the practices of perfect awakening. Fifth, they have no doubts about the Buddha's wisdom. Sixth, they understand gratitude. Seventh, they do not slander the true Dharma. Eighth, they skilfully uphold the precepts. Ninth, they reach the stage of pacification. Tenth, they attain the four kinds of unobstructed [eloquence]. O Youth! These are the ten benefits of bodhisattvas who abide in serene meditation."
爾時,世尊即說偈言:
At that time, the Bhagavān spoke the following gāthā:
「其心無濁亂,
遠離諸放逸,
住不放逸行,
宴坐之境界,
Their mind is unclouded and free from disturbance,
Far from all forms of negligence,
They abide in the practice of non-negligence,
In the realm of serene meditation.
為世燈明念,
增長彼信樂,
佛智不思議,
方便無疑惑,
They are like a lamp of wisdom for the world,
Increasing faith and joy in others,
The Buddha’s wisdom is inconceivable,
And their skilful means are free from doubt.
能知諸佛恩,
不誹謗正法,
安住善律儀,
到於調伏地,
They understand the gratitude owed to the Buddhas,
They do not slander the true Dharma,
They dwell in pure moral conduct,
And reach the stage of pacification.
得無礙辯才,
樂獨處林中,
捨恭敬利養,
宴坐之境界。
They attain unobstructed eloquence,
Finding joy in solitary forest dwelling,
Abandoning praise and worldly gain,
In the realm of serene meditation.
彼心不濁亂,
曾無有放逸,
智者常謹慎,
是為寂靜利;
Their mind is never clouded or disturbed,
And they have never been negligent,
The wise are always cautious,
This is the benefit of tranquility.
無畏常愛念,
信於佛所行,
於佛智不疑,
是為寂靜利;
They are fearless and always cherish mindfulness,
Having faith in the Buddha's practices,
They are without doubt in the Buddha’s wisdom,
This is the benefit of tranquility.
恒念如來恩,
不誹謗正法,
住律儀方便,
是為寂靜利;
They constantly remember the Tathāgata’s kindness,
Never slandering the true Dharma,
Abiding in pure precepts and skilful means,
This is the benefit of tranquility.
彼到調伏地,
速證無礙辯,
演說百千經,
恒常不滯住。
They reach the stage of pacification,
Quickly attaining unobstructed eloquence,
They expound hundreds of thousands of teachings,
And never become stuck or hindered.
速攝佛菩提,
護持諸佛法,
降伏諸異論,
廣作佛菩提。
They swiftly approach the Buddha’s enlightenment,
Upholding the Dharma of all Buddhas,
Subduing all false views,
And widely fulfilling the Buddha’s path.
菩薩於此終,
往生安樂國,
彌陀為說法,
逮得無生忍。
When bodhisattvas complete this,
They are reborn in the Land of Bliss,
Where Amitābha expounds the Dharma,
And they attain the patience of non-arising.
「童子!菩薩摩訶薩愛樂空閑有十種利。何等為十?一者、省世事務,二者、遠離眾閙,三者、無有違諍,四者、住無惱處,五者、不增有漏,六者、不起鬪訟,七者、安住靜默,八者、隨順相續解脫,九者、速證解脫,十者、施功而得三昧。童子!是為菩薩愛樂空閑十種利益。」
"O Youth! There are ten benefits for bodhisattva mahāsattvas who delight in solitude. What are these ten? First, they reduce worldly affairs. Second, they are far from crowds and disturbances. Third, they have no conflicts. Fourth, they dwell in places free from afflictions. Fifth, they do not increase their defilements. Sixth, they do not engage in disputes. Seventh, they abide in silence. Eighth, they follow the path of continuous liberation. Ninth, they swiftly attain liberation. Tenth, through effort, they attain samādhi. O Youth! These are the ten benefits of bodhisattvas who delight in solitude."
爾時,世尊即說偈言:
At that time, the Bhagavān spoke the following gāthā:
「成就少事務,
遠離眾憒閙,
彼成無違諍,
獨靜空閑利;
They accomplish few worldly affairs,
Far from crowds and disturbances,
They have no conflicts,
These are the benefits of solitude and quietude.
其心無瞋惱,
不增長有漏,
常和無諍訟,
是住空閑利;
Their mind has no anger or afflictions,
They do not increase their defilements,
They are always peaceful and free from disputes,
This is the benefit of dwelling in solitude.
安心住寂滅,
常樂遠離行,
隨順無累智,
速證解脫道,
Their mind is settled in tranquillity,
Always delighting in the practice of detachment,
They follow the path of wisdom without burdens,
And swiftly attain liberation.
處林習禪定,
棄捨眾閙過,
不復起違諍,
樂閑獲是利。
Dwelling in the forest, practising meditation,
They abandon the faults of crowds and disturbances,
They no longer engage in disputes,
This is the benefit of delighting in solitude.
常厭離有為,
世間無欣慕,
諸漏不增長,
住林有是利;
They are constantly weary of conditioned things,
And have no attachment to the world,
Their defilements do not increase,
This is the benefit of dwelling in the forest.
不起鬪諍過,
心常樂寂靜,
善禁身、口、意,
住空有是利;
They do not engage in disputes,
Their mind always delights in silence,
They skilfully restrain body, speech, and mind,
This is the benefit of dwelling in solitude.
隨順於解脫,
速到無障累,
常住樂恬靜,
是住空閑利。
They follow the path of liberation,
Swiftly attaining freedom from obstacles,
Always abiding in serene joy,
This is the benefit of dwelling in solitude.
「童子!菩薩摩訶薩樂於頭陀、常行乞食有十種利。何等為十?一者、摧我慢幢;二者、不求親愛;三者、不為名聞;四者、住在聖種;五者、不諂、不誑、不現異相、又不激切;六者、不自高舉;七者、不毀他人;八者、斷除愛恚;九者、若入人家,不為飲食而行法施;十者、住頭陀行,有所說法為人信受。童子!是名菩薩摩訶薩樂於頭陀、行於乞食十種利益。」
"O Youth! There are ten benefits for bodhisattva mahāsattvas who delight in dhutāṅga practice and constantly receive alms. What are these ten? First, they destroy the banner of egoistic pride. Second, they do not seek familial affection. Third, they do not act for fame or recognition. Fourth, they remain in the lineage of the noble ones. Fifth, they do not flatter, deceive, display abnormal signs, or speak harshly. Sixth, they do not exalt themselves. Seventh, they do not disparage others. Eighth, they eliminate desire and hatred. Ninth, when entering a house, they practise the giving of Dharma rather than seeking food. Tenth, by abiding in dhutāṅga practice, their teachings are trusted by others. O Youth! These are the ten benefits of bodhisattvas who delight in dhutāṅga practice and engage in receiving alms."
「彼人無我慢,
不求託親友,
利衰心平等,
以住頭陀故;
These people are free from egoistic pride,
They do not seek dependence on family or friends,
Their minds remain equal in gain and loss,
Because they abide in dhutāṅga practice.
不壞於聖種,
無諂亦無誑,
自身不高舉,
亦不輕毀他,
They do not corrupt the noble lineage,
They are without flattery or deceit,
They do not elevate themselves,
Nor do they belittle or destroy others.
棄捨愛恚心,
說法無所悕,
若說人信受,
是為乞食利。
They abandon the mind of desire and anger,
When teaching the Dharma, they have no ulterior motives,
If they speak, people trust and accept their words,
This is the benefit of receiving alms.
不求親名利,
安住聖種中,
柔直不諂慢,
是樂頭陀利;
They do not seek fame or favour from loved ones,
They abide in the noble lineage,
They are gentle, straightforward, without flattery or arrogance,
This is the benefit of delighting in dhutāṅga practice.
不自譽毀他,
得譽不欣喜,
聞毀無恚惱,
是樂頭陀利;
They do not praise themselves or belittle others,
When praised, they do not rejoice,
When criticised, they are without anger or affliction,
This is the benefit of delighting in dhutāṅga practice.
法施不為食,
不求恭敬故,
所言人信受,
是樂頭陀利。
They give Dharma without seeking food,
Nor do they seek honour and respect,
Their words are trusted by others,
This is the benefit of delighting in dhutāṅga practice.
「童子!菩薩摩訶薩住如是等功德利益,在於空閑得見佛藏、得於法藏、得彼智藏,得過去、未來、現在智慧之藏。
"O Youth! Bodhisattva mahāsattvas, abiding in such meritorious benefits, in solitude, attain the vision of the Buddha treasury, the Dharma treasury, and the treasury of wisdom. They also attain the treasury of wisdom regarding past, future, and present.
「童子!云何得於佛藏?童子!菩薩摩訶薩樂遠離行、住於空閑,獲五神通。何等為五?一者、天眼,二者、天耳,三者、能知他心,四者、善知宿命,五者、神通境界。是菩薩以天眼界清淨過人,見於東方無量無數諸佛、世尊;如是,南、西、北方亦復如是;四維、上、下亦見無量無數諸佛,常得覩矚未曾捨離。童子!是為菩薩得見佛藏。
"O Youth! How does one attain the Buddha treasury? O Youth! Bodhisattva mahāsattvas delight in the practice of detachment and abide in solitude, thereby attaining the five supernormal powers. What are these five? First, the divine eye. Second, the divine ear. Third, the ability to know others' minds. Fourth, the ability to recall past lives. Fifth, mastery of supernatural powers. With the purity of their divine eye, surpassing that of ordinary beings, these bodhisattvas see countless Buddhas and Bhagavāns in the east. Likewise, they see countless Buddhas in the south, west, and north, as well as in the four intermediate directions, above, and below. They constantly behold these Buddhas without ever being separated from them. O Youth! This is how bodhisattvas attain the vision of the Buddha treasury.
「童子!云何菩薩摩訶薩得於法藏?童子!是佛、如來有所說法,彼菩薩以天耳界清淨過人悉皆得聞,是菩薩常得聞法而不遠離。童子!是為菩薩得於法藏。
"O Youth! How do bodhisattva mahāsattvas attain the Dharma treasury? O Youth! Whatever Dharma the Buddha, the Tathāgata, proclaims, these bodhisattvas, with their purified divine ear, surpassing that of ordinary beings, hear it all. These bodhisattvas can always hear the Dharma without being separated from it. O Youth! This is how bodhisattvas attain the Dharma treasury.
「童子!云何菩薩得於智藏?童子!以是智慧能持諸法,於一切眾生大悲為首,以不癡心而為說法、知彼法義。童子!是為菩薩摩訶薩得於智藏。
"O Youth! How do bodhisattvas attain the treasury of wisdom? O Youth! With this wisdom, they are able to uphold all Dharmas, and with great compassion as their primary motivation toward all sentient beings, they teach the Dharma with a mind free from delusion, understanding the meaning of the Dharma. O Youth! This is how bodhisattva mahāsattvas attain the treasury of wisdom.
「童子!云何菩薩摩訶薩得過去、未來、現在智藏?童子!是菩薩如實知一切眾生心行惟自心行次第所起,觀自心法以無亂想,修習方便如自心行;類他亦爾,隨所見色、聞聲,有愛、無愛心皆如實知。童子!是名菩薩得過去、未來、現在智藏。
"O Youth! How do bodhisattva mahāsattvas attain the treasury of wisdom regarding past, future, and present? O Youth! These bodhisattvas truly know that the actions of all sentient beings' minds arise only according to the progression of their own mind. They observe their own mind's Dharma without confusion, cultivating skilful means according to their mind's actions. In the same way, they observe others, knowing with certainty, based on the colours they see and the sounds they hear, whether there is affection or aversion. O Youth! This is called attaining the treasury of wisdom regarding past, future, and present.
「童子!我今略說住如是德菩薩摩訶薩得一切佛法,非諸聲聞、辟支佛地,何況一切外道異論?」
"O Youth! I have now briefly explained that bodhisattva mahāsattvas who abide in such virtues attain all the Buddha’s Dharma. This is not within the scope of śrāvakas or pratyekabuddhas, much less the external paths and disputants."
