This vinaya is one of the two correctly and fully translated vinayas in Chinese, the other being the Mahīsāsaka Vinaya. In contrast to other vinayas, such as the Dharmaguptaka Vinaya, it contains an extensive explanation of the origins of precepts, as well as many jātaka stories.
