22. The Teaching on the Body

「童子！菩薩摩訶薩應不著於身、能棄於命。何以故？童子！若著身者作不善法，是以菩薩應知色身及以法身。何以故？諸佛法身所攝，非色身也；佛以法身顯現，非色身也。」

"O Youth! A bodhisattva mahāsattva should not become attached to the body and must be able to relinquish life. Why is this so? O Youth! If one is attached to the body, one engages in unwholesome dharmas. Therefore, a bodhisattva should understand both the form body and the Dharma body. Why is this so? The Dharma body of the buddhas is not associated with the form body; the buddhas manifest through the Dharma body, not through the form body."
