"O Youth! For this reason, if a bodhisattva mahāsattva wishes to know the speech of all sentient beings, to understand the differences in their faculties, and to skilfully teach the Dharma according to their past and future distinctions, O Youth! That person should uphold, recite, and extensively teach this Samādhi to others. Moreover, to gather all sentient beings, they should practice skilful means accordingly."
At that time, the Bhagavān spoke the following gāthā:
住第一善而不動;
"If one has seen countless Buddhas,
And inquired about this Samādhi,
Such a person of supreme wisdom bears this Samādhi,
Dwelling in the foremost virtue, immovable;
是不放逸持定故;
Attaining the marvellous bliss of humans and devas,
Always receiving superior offerings from others,
And gaining the joy of meditation and nirvāṇa,
Due to bearing this Samādhi without negligence;
樂求解脫持定故;
Hearing praise from others, they do not become joyful,
When insulted, they do not become angry,
Unmoved by the eight worldly concerns, like a mountain,
Delighting in seeking liberation, they bear the Samādhi;
由不放逸持定故;
Their speech never expresses meaningless words,
They are free from anger, arrogance, and disputes,
With patience and self-control, their mind is joyful,
Due to bearing the samādhi without negligence;
以持勝淨三昧故;
Their words are soft, truthful, and well-considered,
With a calm and pleasant face, they first offer comfort,
When seeing all sentient beings, they always smile,
Due to bearing the supreme pure Samādhi;
以持淨勝三昧故;
Their mind is always disciplined, not harming others,
They skilfully control the five senses and uphold pure discipline,
Living in truth, speaking little but with great benefit and kindness,
Due to bearing the pure and supreme Samādhi;
善業人持直定故;
They always give generously without a stingy heart,
Filling hungry and thirsty beings with sustenance,
While not seeking joy in their own consumption, they rejoice in giving to others,
This person of virtuous deeds bears the upright Samādhi;
勇猛持是勝定故;
Loved by hundreds and thousands of devas,
Respected by yakṣas, asuras, and nāgas,
Even when dwelling alone in the forest, they are always protected,
Due to courageously bearing this supreme Samādhi;
以不放逸持定故;
They delight in tranquility, free from sounds,
Nāgas and asuras constantly visit them,
None can cause them fear,
Due to bearing the Samādhi without negligence;
Their voice is like the sound of Brahmā,
As delightful as the calls of swans,
Like the harmony of five hundred beautiful tones,
Their fame spreads throughout the world.
The particles of dust that make up the earth,
Their merit exceeds those in number,
The treasury of merit that benefits all sentient beings,
Is attained by practicing this Samādhi of tranquility."
